The Anderson County Fair won its second award in as many years at the annual North Carolina/South Carolina convention January 13 at the Sheraton Imperial in Raleigh, NC. The South Carolina Association of Fairs presented the award for best New Fair program of 2006 to Fair Manager, John Owens, CFE. The award was for the Silver Queen Competition that was supervised by Donna Whitt and the Red Hat Society. The Silver Queen Competition premiered at the 2006 Fair. Anne Wright of Anderson won the competition. Harriet Harbin of Westminster, SC, was 1st runner up and Sara King of Belton was the 2nd runner-up. It is a senior women's competition that looks for community involvement, poise and community achievements. It is part of the Fair's overall plan to reach out to the Anderson Community for more involvement at the annual Fair. This is the second award the Anderson County Fair has won in the past two years. The Fair also won the landscaping award last year for the double waterfall and fountain that Jay Copeland and his pupils from West Side Extension designed and built in front of the E. James Strates Pavilion. The Anderson County Fair, "It's Your Fair...A Family Affair", runs from October 12 - 21, 2007 and promises to be spectacular. The 2007 theme is "Tropical Paradise".
