Anderson County Fair Wins Another Award: Friend of The Fair Award The combined South Carolina/North Carolina Fair Association Annual Convention took place January 9-11, 2008 at the Embassy Suites at Myrtle Beach. The South Carolina Association of Fairs presented the distinguished Friend of the Fair Award to local Anderson resident, Pete Briscoe. Award Criteria and Rules: This Award recognizes an Associate Member of our Association rather than a position within a Fair. This "Friend of the Fair" can be a Vendor, Organization or any Individual or Group that contributes to the success of a Fair in general. This Award will be given for service to a Fair or the industry in general that goes above and beyond expectations. Individuals independent of the Association will conduct judging. Summary Of Nominee's Qualifications, Contributions and Other Reasons for Nomination: A better work ethic, harder worker, a more conscientious person would be difficult to find. Pete has worked at the Anderson County Fair over 15 years. He has jumped in and worked in maintenance, as a ticket taker, delivered the annual school fliers, McDonald's Coupons, and anything asked of him. When there was a gap between Fair Managers from October 2004 until January 2005 he was asked to watch over things at the fairgrounds. He is fiercely loyal, honest and a true gentleman. Last year his wife, Mildred, became extremely ill and he had a stint and pacemaker put in. Given all of that, he still showed up daily during the Fair just to see if it was going well. This year, he was back working every night. A more deserving candidate would be difficult to find. The Anderson county Fair & Expo Center, The Strates family and Fair Manager John Owens are extremely proud of Pete for receiving this award.
